The Pascack Valley Regional High School District will advance the work of inclusivity and equity throughout the district.  In an effort to do so, the district will expand institutional awareness, establish stronger connections with marginalized groups and engage students and regional partners.

2019 - 2020 Pascack Valley Regional High School District Goal #1

The incomprehensible killing of George Floyd has reignited the loud call of Americans to condemn this nation’s long history of racism.  We have seen the outrage of Mr. Floyd’s murder lead to peaceful protests and in many cases, quickly evolve to violent clashes and looting.  It is heartbreaking to witness and our students are watching how our country and how we act.

Our nation is in pain and needs to heal and learn from what it is experiencing.  To be silent is to be complicit and our district will not be silent on this topic.  I am meeting with our student equity teams tomorrow and expect the killing of Mr. Floyd and our district’s response to be one of the primary topics of discussion.  In addition, I know that many of our teachers will not remain silent in these last two weeks of school, but will instead be engaging students in meaningful discussions about how they are feeling, what Pascack can do to support them, and encourage them to act in a meaningful and peaceful manner.

The Pascack Valley Regional High School District is committed to promoting equity and racial justice, but we realize that we still have a long way to go.  We need the ongoing voices of students, parents, and community members to share their thoughts with us as we strive to heal and move forward.

I appreciate our collective, ongoing commitment to this work.

Sincerely,
