The Science Curriculum in the
The curriculum is designed to satisfy the needs of all science students by exceeding the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards. The state of New Jersey requires the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) are implemented in grades 9-12 in beginning in September of 2016. The NGSS were developed by teachers, scientists, and leaders in science and science education from around the country; they focus on the big ideas in science and emphasizes the common practices that scientists use every day, such as planning investigations, developing models, and designing solutions. The NGSS encourage students to learn the processes of science in a deep, meaningful way through first hand investigative experiences, instead of just memorizing facts for a test. This scientific way of thinking will ensure that the concepts children learn in school will stay with them not just for a day, a week, or a year—but for a lifetime. For more information about the NGSS, please use this link: http://www.nsta.org/docs/NGSSParentGuide.pdf
The Science Department is continually striving to be on the cutting edge of science instruction. If you are a community member, scientist, engineer, researcher or other person involved with science who would be interested in speaking and sharing your experiences with our students, please contact the Supervisor of Science. If you are a parent seeking information or clarification regarding your son or daughter’s science class or their performance in that class, please contact the teacher prior to contacting the supervisor of instruction. Together we can continue to graduate scientifically literate and articulate students.
