The students were invited to attend the Celebration of Education at Seton Hall University on Sunday, April 16, 2023. The students are:
  • Casey McKay (Honorable Mention, 12th grade)
  • Jillian Fleishman (1st Place, 11th grade)
  • Asiya Crandall (Honorable Mention, 9th grade)

Per Seton Hall University website, every year the Sister Rose Thering Fund offers a statewide writing competition for high school students in New Jersey who have viewed and discussed the award-winning documentary Sister Rose's Passion. This year's essay prompt was "Genocide and Holocaust Education". Information about and copies of the film are distributed to public, private and religious schools in cooperation with the New Jersey Commission for Holocaust Education.

As stated on the website, a committee of readers evaluates the hundreds of essays submitted to determine winners, first and second place for each grade 7-12. The winners, their teachers and families are invited to a reception on the Seton Hall campus and receive certificates, gifts and monetary awards.
