The Hills Valley Community Coalition hosted a dynamic parent/teen education program, “Split Image: Secret Struggles of Teens,” on May 3, at Pascack Hills High School.  The evening program, with 500 participants, featured a Mental Health Resource Fair at 6pm followed by the keynote speaker, Kate Fagan, ESPN Journalist and Author of What Made Maddy Run.  Kate’s message was impactful regarding split image, social media, performance perfection, and the toll it has taken on our youth. Her message reminds us how diligent we need to be with our kids and their mental health needs.

The Mental Health Resource Fair promoted “Stigma Free Mental Health” and encouraged families to access the resources available to them in our community prior to the keynote.  Our hope is to provide an array of resources that allow participants to meet face to face and gain awareness of services available in our region.  In addition, small group book discussions on What Made Maddy Run followed the keynote. The discussions were facilitated by mental health professionals, PVRHSD staff, and HVC members regarding struggles our teens face.

The Hills Valley Coalition would like to give special thanks to the program sponsors: Pascack Valley Regional High School District, Caron Treatment Centers, High Focus Centers, New Bridge Medical Center, AFC Urgent Care, Wegmans, New Pathway Counseling Services, New Bridge Medical Center, Newport Academy, Spine and Health of Montvale, Bergen County Therapy, Ambrosia Treatment Center, Care Plus NJ, and Turnbridge.
