In addition to being experienced law enforcement officers, the Pascack Valley Regional High School District Special Officers, known as SLEO-III officers, have also been trained in life saving skills.  All officers are trained in CPR and Bleeding Control.  One of those officers, Hugh Ames from Pascack Valley High School, used that training this summer to save a life.

“I was driving on the Pennsylvania Turnpike with my daughter this summer and came across a serious motor vehicle accident involving a truck.  I pulled over to stop to see if I could help.  The truck driver was bleeding severely.  I remember from the training that Dr. Bachenheimer gave to us that our first action for life-threatening bleeding should be a tourniquet, so I put one on him.  The paramedics who responded said I helped save the man’s life.” shared Ames.

After hearing about this incident, Dr. Bachenheimer, the district’s Director of Curriculum & Instruction (and also an EMT and Bleeding Control instructor), gave Officer Ames a replacement tourniquet.

Congratulations to Officer Ames for a job well done!
