Below is an article, co-authored by PVRHSD Communication Interns Vin Coglianese and Drew Welsh, highlighting the Business and Internship departments as part of their continued coverage of our district departments.

For November, we featured our district’s Business and Internship  programs. Throughout the month, we explored classroom environments, highlighted new additions to the department, and had multiple social media posts showing many different features. We were able to sit down with supervisor Mr. Joe Orlak and District Internship Coordinator Ms. Laura McSpirit to learn more about these departments.

In the Business department this year, Supervisor Mr. Joe Orlak spoke about multiple new classes and initiatives that are happening this year. First, we have many new classes which are available to students: Management and Leadership, Accounting and Elements of Financial Literacy, Financial Investment, and the Blended Financial Literacy course, which had been offered before, but is now also offered during the summer as well.

In these courses, students will learn fundamental skills essential across various professional situations. They build up a large understanding of effective decision-making, critical thinking, and problem-solving. Additionally, they develop communication skills vital for collaboration and leadership roles. Understanding financial concepts, such as investment strategies, risk assessment, and financial management, is a shared focus across these classes.

In the Internship program, students are offered a plethora of opportunities to gain experience in real life working environments. The program offers more than 200 different sites to get an inside look on what the real world looks like in their intended profession. District Internship Coordinator Ms. Laura McSpirit discussed several new opportunities that will be offered in the upcoming year, such as engineering firms, car dealerships, medical facilities, and more!

The Internship program does not only offer a great working experience, but provides a great talking point, as well as a resume builder. Each year, many of our interns go on into the “real world” and apply their newly acquired skills to their working environment. The program is proud to have past interns working in big companies such as United Airlines, New Jersey State Police, and Mercedes-Benz.

Both the Business and Internship departments provide students with truly unique experiences that will assist them in real world situations and encounters later in life.

Keep an eye out on our Social Media platforms as we enter December and will be covering our Art and Music classes!
