Below is an article, co-authored by PVRHSD Communication Interns Vin Coglianese and Drew Welsh, highlighting the Art and Music departments as part of their continued coverage of our district departments.
For January, we featured our district’s World Language and Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS) programs. Throughout the month, we explored classroom environments, highlighted new additions to the department, and had multiple social media posts showing many different features. We were able to sit down with interim supervisor Argine Safari to learn more about these departments.
In the World Language department this year, Ms. Safari spoke about the amazing success of the second annual Celebration of Cultures. With more than 100 students presenting and more than 30 cultures represented, the event doubled in size from last year!
Leaders Vin Coglianese and Safari also secured special guests for the Celebration! The New Milford High School Strolling String Ensemble had multiple jaw-dropping performances throughout the day. Award-Winning Composer, commentator, pianist and conductor Mr. Rob Kapilow hosted an interactive workshop where he broke down different musical pieces, shared his past experiences, and answered many different amazing questions!
In the Family and Consumer Sciences department this year, students are offered unique opportunities with the “Early Childhood & Family Education” classes. Ms. Safari shared that on four mornings of the week, our high school students have the opportunity to work with and assist in teaching pre-school level students. The Pascack Valley program recently expanded to a larger space where more high school and pre-school students will be able to engage in new learning experiences.
Both the World Language and FACS departments continue to provide students with truly unique experiences that will assist them in real world situations and encounters later in life.
