The vocal and instrumental lessons are given by Tri-M members, as well as Chamber Choir and Concert Band members recommended by Mrs. Elkin and Mr. Dore.

Starting in the month of March, members of the Tri-M Honor Society, along with other music students at Pascack Hills, began working on the Tri-M Project. In this project, a student from PHHS provides a student they have been paired with from Fieldstone Middle School or Woodcliff Lake Middle School with music lessons, whether vocal or instrumental. This is the second year the Pascack Hills chapter of the Tri-M Honor society has worked to give musical opportunities to the next generation of musicians.

“Not only do these lessons give the middle school students a chance to benefit from the musical experiences of talented musicians, it bridges a divide between the middle schools and the high school,” says sophomore Bethany Chen, a Tri-M member.

The goal of the project is to share a love for music with the community and make personal connections with middle school students who will become members of the PH music department in the future.

These are just a few testimonies:

Daniel and Ms. Elkin,
It was a great concert. We appreciate that Daniel (Song) put his valuable time and so much effort into teaching Gheelim. It was amazing how much she learned to play this difficult instrument in such a short period of time. Gheelim is so excited and has become more confident about herself.
Ms. Elkin, thank you for this opportunity. Gheelim would have never had a chance to learn this beautiful instrument unless you organized and offered this program. We hope more people will be part of this great program and experience what we greatly appreciated today.
Thank you!
Best,
Misung Cho (mom of Gheelim Cho, a 6th grader FMS)

As a parent, I’d like to say thank you, it was such a great idea to have high school music students tutor middle school kids. It was a win-win for everyone with great opportunity for growth as both the tutor and tutee. Thanks again!
Melanie Presha (mom of Sophia Presha 6th grader FMS)

Mrs. Elkin,
I cannot thank you enough for bringing the talent of your Tri-M students to the middle school students of our community!  Owen has been inspired, supported, and challenged by his Tri-M music teachers over the past two years.  His confidence has grown and his interest in pursuing music in high school has been intensified by the wonderful role models and mentors he has had from Pascack Hills.  The concert tonight was beautiful and very emotional.  Clearly the students and teachers have all grown and greatly benefited from this collaboration.  Thank you for providing such a meaningful opportunity!  As a parent of both a Tri-M teacher and middle school student I am incredibly grateful!!!
Kindest regards,
Rachel Baskin (mom of Hannah Baskin, Junior at PHHS; and Owen Baskin, 6th grader FMS)

Dear Mrs. Elkin,
Thank you so much for organizing this program.
Gowri has been doing this since last year and she has enjoyed working with Maddy (Leibman). I have personally seen Gowri improving so much as she worked with Maddy. I am looking forward for Gowri to participate next year and work with Maddy again.
Regards,
Reshma (mom of Gowri Hari, 6th grader FMS)

I had a great experience tutoring my student, and it was rewarding to see her (Deshna Shah, 6th grader FMS) grow as a musician and strive to get better every lesson.
Grace Zak, Junior, Concert Band member

Mrs. Elkin,
Thank you for organizing this initiative and event with us.  We really enjoyed the connection that Akira was able to make with her mentor, Bethany (Chen).  Akira has never had any formal voice lessons, and this was such a nice way for her to learn more about expressing herself through voice.  Akira thoroughly enjoyed this experience, and it was very meaningful to her.
Thank you again,
Akiko Matsumoto (mom of Akira Soulier-Matsumoto, 6th grade FMS).
